A blueprint Food Marketing Directive, prepared by experts in the field, can act as inspiration for how the EU can regulate cross-border marketing, simultaneously creating fair and equal conditions for food companies on the European market, while protecting public health, consumers, the environment, and children’s rights.
“ Article 1 – Subject-matter and objective
- The purpose of this Directive is to protect children from the harm associated with the marketing of nutritionally poor food.
- This Directive provides the basis for a high level of public health and consumer protection in relation to food marketing, whilst ensuring the smooth functioning of the internal market.
- This Directive protects the fundamental rights and freedoms of children and in particular their right to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health.
